WSOC: GMU forfeits 2022 games due to ineligible player

CALGARY – MacEwan University has been stripped of nine women's soccer wins during the 2022 Canada West regular season due to an ineligible player participating in those games, the conference announced Monday.
As per U SPORTS regulations, MacEwan forfeits all results in which the ineligible player played.
“This is an unfortunate incident for everyone involved and we feel for those student-athletes and coaches that are impacted by it. As soon as we learned of the violation on Friday we self-reported it to the Canada West and U SPORTS offices. Although this error was inadvertent, we will be working with our governing bodies to ensure a similar situation does not occur again,” said Joel Mrak, Director of Athletics, Griffins Athletics.
The forfeits result in GMU being stripped of the following wins: Aug. 26 vs Alberta, Sept. 9 vs Victoria, Sept. 17 vs UNBC, Sept. 18 vs Calgary, Sept. 24 vs Lethbridge, Sept. 25 vs Mount Royal, Oct. 1 vs Manitoba, Oct. 2 vs Winnipeg, Oct. 8 vs Mount Royal. Two MacEwan losses, on Aug. 28 to Alberta and Sept. 10 to UBC, affected by the infraction remain intact.
MacEwan finished the season with a 12-2 record, prior to the forfeitures applied. That record has been changed to 3-11.
