WRES: ALB, CGY wrestlers earn conference honours

CGY's Demaio, ALB's Mulkay named CW Wrestlers of the Week

CALGARY – Calgary's Joseph DeMaio and Alberta's Katie Mulkay were named the Canada West Wrestlers of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.

DeMaio had an impressive showing as a rookie to Canada West this year as he squared off against athletes from Alberta and Saskatchewan at the Huskies' home meet.

He instantly proved his prowess as he took home gold in the 100-kilogram category Saturday, while pinning his opponent in the duals action Friday.

The Dinos wrestler helped his team to a third-place finish at the meet.

The Canada West Wrestling Championships are slated for February 11, 2023 at the University of Alberta.

Meanwhile, Alberta's Katie Mulkay showed her skill in the popular 67-kilogram category over the weekend.

She took home gold while helping her Pandas to a first-place finish in the meet. Alberta nudged out the host Saskatchewan Huskies by five points on the women's side.

Mulkay's strength and technical skill showed her to be a force to be reckoned with this season.

The Canada West Wrestling Championships are slated for February 11, 2023 at the University of Alberta.
