WHKY: Mount Royal trio headlines all-star nods
All-stars announced with puck set to drop on semi-final action
CALGARY — A trio of Mount Royal hockey players headline this year's first all-star team, Canada West announced Monday as it unveiled its women's all-star and all-rookie rosters.
The conference's top three teams (MRU, UBC, ALB) combined for nine of the 12 all-star selections, while Manitoba, Calgary and Regina also rostered honourees.
First-team All Stars
Zoe De Beauville, Mackenzie Butz and Tianna Ko were the top-seeded Cougars' goalie-defence-forward tandem to make the team. Ko shared this year's goal scoring title with fellow first-team all stars Lilla Carpenter-Boesch (REG) and Rylind MacKinnon (UBC).
Many of the all-stars will be looking to add "CW Champions" to their now extended resumes, with the puck set to drop on semi-final action this weekend.
All-stars prepare for CW semifinals
Mount Royal and British Columbia finished one-two in the CW regular season and are preparing to host this weekend's best-of-three conference series, which open Friday.
Mount Royal is on the hunt for their first CW Championship banner since they joined the conference in 2011, while British Columbia will be looking for their fourth title in the sport, last having captured the women's hockey banner in 2016-2017.
MRU will host Saskatchewan, a team fresh off a road sweep of the Manitoba Bisons while UBC will welcome Alberta, who also swept their quarterfinal match-up with the Regina Cougars.
