WBB: Five teams advance after nail-biting action in second round

Here's your full day two recap

It only gets more intense from here. The second round of the CW Women's Basketball Playoffs featured a series of nail-biters as five teams earned their spots in the quarterfinals where the conference's top three teams have been waiting. The other five saw their seasons come to an end, but not without a fight.

VIC vs CGY: Victoria started hot in this one, but Calgary's ability to score from all over the floor allowed them the runs when it mattered. The physical battled raged back and forth, but the Dinos managed to stay ahead most the way to earn their spot in the quarterfinals Saturday. Full game recap here.

MAN vs LETH: This was a game of inspired play from two opposing guards who were fun to watch as fans sat at the edge of their seats. The back-and-forth action kept the game close, and with both teams fighting to keep their seasons alive, the tension was palpable. In the end, the higher-ranked Lethbridge Pronghorns were able to defeat the Manitoba Bisons by three points. Full game recap here.

GMU vs TWU: Another intense game in the second round of the bracket saw Trinity Western and MacEwan tied after three quarters of play. Trinity Western was able to dig deep and pull ahead of MacEwan thanks to a 12-2 run in the fourth, a lead that MacEwan tried to surmount but couldn't. Full game recap here.

UNBC vs REG: Get off to a strong start and be sure to follow through with a strong finish. That was the key to Regina's victory over UNBC in a tight game that had UNBC up by one going into the final ten minutes of play. Regina's defence took over down the stretch, while their offence regained its steam. Full game recap here.

MRU vs WPG: After some early jitters, the Winnipeg Wesmen settled into their game to defeat Mount Royal in the Cougars' home gym. Mount Royal kept the game within reach but ultimately could not match Winnipeg's depth as the latter secured their quarterfinal spot. Full game recap here.
