VB: UFV, TWU hitters lethal in weekend sweeps

Attieh, Hofer named CW Players of the Week

CALGARY – Fraser Valley's Lauren Attieh and Trinity Western's Brodie Hofer were named the Canada West Volleyball Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.

Attieh was the dominant force in a pair of wins for the Cascades over the weekend as they took down last season's East Division winners in the Saskatchewan Huskies. Attieh is helping Fraser Valley make a name for itself in just its second year in Canada West.

She far out hit all players on the floor Friday evening, slamming down 28 kills and working efficiently while doing so. She added two service aces and an outstanding 20 digs on the defensive side in the 3-2 victory.

The Huskies remained answerless for Attieh Saturday, as she went off for another 21 kills, matching that in points as the Cascades took the win in four sets. She again showed her grit on the defensive side of the ball, popping up 19 digs to help her team to their first wins of the season.

Attieh and the Cascades are now off for a week before returning to the court Nov. 18 and 19 in Winnipeg. Those matches are set for 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. CST respectively. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.

Game log:
Nov. 4: 28K (.449), 1 assist, 2SA, 20 digs, 30 points in 3-2 W vs SSK
Nov. 5: 21K (.111), 3 assists, 19 digs, 21 points in 3-1 W vs SSK

Meanwhile, Brodie Hofer was busy ensuring his Trinity Western Spartans stayed perfect on the season. The fourth-year outside put on a show Friday, nailing down 15 kills and four service aces in three sets, while pitching in defensively with six digs.

The high-flying, powerful hitter further terrorized the Calgary Dinos Saturday, this time going off for 26 kills, converting at an inhuman rate of .697. He showcased his serve with another four aces while tucking the Dinos away in four sets.

Hofer was a spectacle to watch in the weekend sweep, leading his Spartans as they look to again assert their dominance in the west.

He and the Spartans are now off for a week before travelling to take on the Mount Royal Cougars on Nov. 18 and 19. The games are set to tip off at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. MST respectively. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.
