VB: UFV, ALB hitters swing big in weekend sweeps
Canham, G. Attieh named CW Players of the Week
CALGARY – Fraser Valley's Gabrielle Attieh and Alberta's Jordan Canham were named the Canada West Volleyball Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
Attieh now joins her sister Lauren, who was named the conference's Women's Volleyball Player of the Week on November 8.
The duo have been dynamite for the Cascades this season, but this weekend was Gabrielle's turn to shine. She began her campaign with a 22-kill performance Friday evening in Winnipeg, far outpacing everyone else on the floor. Attieh converted on 37.5 per cent of her swings, while hitting the floor for eight digs. Her 24 points led UFV to a 3-1 victory over the then-higher ranked Winnipeg Wesmen.
Attieh showed Friday was no fluke when the teams returned to the hardcourt Saturday, again slamming down 22 hits. She showed off defensively with 15 digs, as her Cascades battled to beat the Wesmen in back-to-back nights.
Attieh now leads the conference in hits per set with 4.42.
She and the Cascades are now set to host the Mount Royal Cougars Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and 7 p.m. PST respectively. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.

He showed off his skills on both sides of the ball Friday, putting down 13 kills while popping up 11 digs. He also contributed with five block assists as the Golden Bears took down the T-Birds in four sets.
Canham led all hitters Saturday with 21 kills as Alberta and UBC took their war into five sets. He worked efficiently in a game where every swing counted, converting at a rate of .368. The fourth-year outside posted eight digs and added three aces for 24.5 points as the Bears prevailed in Vancouver.
