VB: ALB hitter near-perfect as Bears continue to sweep through the west
Canham named CW Player of the Week
CALGARY – Alberta's Jordan Canham was named the Canada West Volleyball Player of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
With the women on a bye week, there will be no selection on the women's side until next Tuesday.
Canham posted an otherworldly .700 hitting percentage Friday evening, going up for 15 kills in a dominant performance against Thompson Rivers. Despite being on the road, Canham looked very at home, as he swung freely from the outside. His power was unmatched, as the Golden Bears took the game in straight sets.
The fourth-year Avonmore, ON product was impressive again Saturday, leading his team with 13 kills on just 21 swings. He also put in work on the defensive side with 6 block assists and six digs. His two service aces put him up into the conference's top 15 for service aces in a single season. He has now posted 40 with three regular season weekends left.
Canham currently sits third in the conference for hitting percentage with a season average of .366. His Golden Bears are enjoying their view from the top of the standings with a 19-1 record.
They'll be back on the court when they host Mount Royal Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. MST respectively. You can catch Saturday's game on TELUS Optik TV (channel 1997) as the featured Game of the Week as the two powerhouses meet to sort out their provincial rivalry. Both games will be available on Canada West TV.
