SOC: Four goal weekends for each UBC midfielder & MRU forward earn them weekly honours
Tolnai, El Gandour named CW Players of the Week

CALGARY – British Columbia's Katalin Tolnai and Mount Royal's Mohamed El Gandour were named the Canada West Soccer Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
Tolnai repeats as the Player of the Week after scoring all four goals her Thunderbirds posted as they took down the Alberta Pandas then the defending U SPORTS champions MacEwan Griffins in a couple close matches over the weekend.
She began her tear Friday, perfectly placing a long-range free kick over the Pandas defenders and goalkeeper late in the first half. She followed it up with another well-struck kick after turning around her defender and finding the short-hand corner of the net.
Her two scores were the sole goals in the game and kept the T-Birds rolling through conference action.
Not even the defending national champions had a response for Tolnai, as she posted another two goal night to gift her team a 2-1 victory. Tolnai's second of the evening was a doozy, going bar down on the Griffins' goalkeeper.
The third-year midfielder kept her T-Birds perfect on the season. UBC (5-0) will be back in action Saturday, as they travel to Manitoba (3-1) for a noon game. You can catch the game exclusively on Canada West TV.
Game log:
Sept. 9: 2 goals, 4 shots, 4 SOG in 2-0 W vs ALB
Sept. 10: 2 goals, 3 shots, 3 SOG in 2-1 W vs GMU
Meanwhile, El Gandour led an MRU squad that put on a show for Calgary soccer fans over the weekend.
In the team's first game against Lethbridge, the fourth-year forward tore toward a pass from the outside and made no mistake as he buried it behind the Pronghorns' goalkeeper. Sixty seconds later, El Gandour struck again, finishing another one-timer to quickly double the Cougars' lead and put the game out of Lethbridge's reach.
El Gandour returned Sunday with two beautifully placed free kicks that beat the Saskatchewan goalkeeper by hugging the net posts.
The Cougars' captain proved his speed, anticipation and skill as MRU picked up two convincing wins at home.
MRU (4-0-1) will be back in action Saturday as they host UBC (3-1) at 3 p.m. local time. You can catch the game exclusively on Canada West TV.
