SOC: CW All-Star and All-Rookie Teams Announced

Oct. 24, 2024 - With the Canada West soccer postseason set to kick off tomorrow, the conference has announced its 2024 men's and women's soccer All-Star and All-Rookie team selections.

On the women's side, the UBC Thunderbirds were predictably well represented after recording the first perfect 14-0 regular season in conference history. The T-Birds sported six total All-Stars, with Bailey Doerksen, Jade Taylor-Ryan, Jacqueline Tyrer and Dakota Beckett all honoured with first team selections.

The Calgary Dinos and MacEwan Griffins each placed a pair on the first team, with Victoria, Trinity Western and Thompson Rivers all having one selection each.

UBCO, Saskatchewan and Alberta all featured a pair of second team All-Stars.

The All-Rookie team was comprised of two T-Birds and two Dinos, with MacEwan, UBCO, Thompson Rivers, Fraser Valley, Alberta, Manitoba and Mount Royal also represented.

On the men's side, the First All-Star Team was headlined by a trio of Calgary Dinos including Owen Antoniuk and brothers Gianmarco and Joey Plenzik. Prairie Division champion Alberta placed a pair, as did the Victoria Vikes and Trinity Western Spartans. The team was rounded out by Fraser Valley's Mateo Brazinha, who led the conference in assists and total points, and UBC defender Eric Lajeunesse.

Alberta had four more second team All-Star nods, with Mount Royal, Trinity Western and UBC also having a pair of second team selections each.

Seven schools were represented on the men’s All-Rookie team, including three UBC selections, a pair of Calgary and Alberta representatives, and solo selections from MacEwan, Fraser Valley, Thompson Rivers and Trinity Western.

The conference's major award winners in both men's and women's soccer will be announced next week.
