RUGBY: Smith helps Dinos get back in win column

Calgary's Ashlynn Smith named CW Player of the Week

VANCOUVER - Ashlynn Smith was named the Canada West Rugby Player of the Week by the conference on Monday after helping the Calgary Dinos get back into the win column on Seniors Day.

Smith, a Victoria, B.C. native, scored a pair of tries in Calgary's 34-10 win over the Alberta Pandas on Saturday, ending the Dinos three-game losing skid.

After applying early pressure on the Pandas side of the field, the fourth-year lock found the try zone for the first score of the game at the five minute mark.

After an Alberta try cut the Dinos lead 17-5, Smith ensured that Calgary would take all of the momentum to halftime, punching through for a second try on the day.

Calgary locked up a top four finish with the win and will face the Pandas again on Saturday in the season finale for both squads.
