RUGBY: First-year leads Vikes in perfect tournament

New addition to the Vikes scores team-high seven tries to earn Player of the Week honours

WINNIPEG - Victoria's Krista Scurfield was named the Canada West Rugby Player of the Week by the conference Tuesday.

Scurfield's speed and agility launched her past defences to post seven tries over the two-day rugby 7s tournament

The first-year player helped the Vikes pick up right where they left off prior to the cancelled season. The University of Victoria three-peated as CW champions since the sport joined the conference in 2018.

Scurfield looked to keep the Vikes' on top as a key contributor on both offence and defence, minimizing the impact injuries took on the squad.

Victoria is slated to be back in action at the next CW tournament on Feb. 12 and 13 as they play host at Wallace Field.

Event log: Rugby 7s Tournament One
Jan. 22: 5 tries in 3 W
Jan. 23: 2 tries in 3 W
