RUGBY 7s: Victoria tournament Dream Team announced

UBC, Victoria and TWU each place multiple selections

March 5, 2025 - Following an action packed weekend in Victoria, Canada West has unveiled its second Canada West Rugby 7s "Dream Team" of the 2025 campaign.

  • Skye Farish – UBC Thunderbirds
  • Hailey Hibbs – Trinity Western Spartans
  • Olivia Newsome – Victoria Vikes
  • Kiki Idowu – UBC Thunderbirds
  • Ella O’Regan – Victoria Vikes
  • Shalaya Valenzuela – UBC Thunderbirds ​
  • Ava Van Santen – Trinity Western Spartans

After another 5-0 performance, the UBC Thunderbirds led the way with three Dream Team representatives for the second straight tournament. Kiki Idowu earned her second straight nod, while Skye Farish and Shalaya Valenzuela were named Dream Team members for the first time this season. Idowu was a difference maker each time she stepped onto the pitch, while Farish and Valenzuela powered the T-Birds offence with five tries each.

Victoria was represented by Olivia Newsome and Ella O'Regan, who thrilled hometown supporters all weekend with dynamic performances. Newsome was named the Canada West BioSteel Rugby 7s Player of the Week after leading the Vikes in all three offensive categories, accumulating six tries, five converts, and 40 total points in five contests.

Trinity Western's Ava Van Santen repeated as a Dream Team selection following another strong weekend while leading the Spartans to a 3-2 record. Van Santen had four tries on day one and added another against Calgary on day two. She was joined on the Dream Team by teammate Hailey Hibbs, who scored two tries over the weekend.

All six Canada West Rugby 7s teams will now prepare for the third and final tournament stop, to be hosted March 14 and 15 by Trinity Western in Langley, B.C.
