RUGBY 7s: TWU tournament Dream Team announced

UBC, Victoria each land a pair on Dream Team

Feb. 28, 2024 - The 2024 Canada West Rugby 7s series reached a thrilling conclusion last weekend as the Trinity Western Spartans hosted the final tournament stop of the season in Langley, B.C. The UBC Thunderbirds proved to be undeniable, going undefeated for the second straight tournament to claim the conference banner.

Savannah Bauder earned her second straight dream team nod for the Thunderbirds, scoring four tries as the driver of a relentless UBC offensive attack. She was joined by teammate Olivia Sarabura who scored five total tries, including three tries on Friday.

The silver medalist Victoria Vikes had two players recognized with dream team selections, including a second straight nod for Larah Wright and a first time selection for Shaye Ogurek. Wright had an incredible five tries to open the tournament on Friday and added another score on day two, while Ogurek's strong overall play included a try against Calgary.

Trinity Western's Ava Van Santen was named to her second consecutive dream team, scoring five tries for the host Spartans.

Alberta's Maria Sawiak and Calgary's Delaney Aikens rounded out the selections. Sawiak scored a try in the Pandas match against Calgary, while Aikens had 11 points (1T, 3C) on day one and also added two key converts in a victory over TWU on day two.
