RUGBY 7s: Langley tournament Dream Team announced

Champion T-Birds place three selections after completing undefeated season

March 19, 2025 - The 2025 Canada West Rugbys 7s season wrapped up in Langley, B.C. last weekend, with the UBC Thunderbirds finishing off a perfect season and capturing their third straight conference banner.

Following the conclusion of the event, Canada West has unveiled its Canada West Rugby 7s "Dream Team" from the Langley series stop.

  • Justine Blatt-Janmaat - Victoria Vikes
  • Elle Douglas - Victoria Vikes
  • Skye Farish – UBC Thunderbirds
  • Olivia Newsome – Victoria Vikes
  • Adia Pye - UBC Thunderbirds
  • Shalaya Valenzuela – UBC Thunderbirds ​
  • Ava Van Santen – Trinity Western Spartans

The Thunderbirds offence was relentless all weekend long, scoring 169 points in five games while going 5-0 to finish off an impressive undefeated season. Adia Pye once again led the way with a tournament high nine tries and 45 points. Teammate Skye Farish was close behind while securing her second straight Dream Team nod, scoring three tries and nine conversions for 33 points. Shalaya Valenzuela also received her second straight Dream Team selection after a dominant showing.

Victoria earned a silver medal and was led by Elle Douglas, who was third in scoring on the weekend with two tries and eight conversions for 26 points. Also securing Dream Team nods for the Vikes were Olivia Newsome, who earned her second straight selection, and Justine Blatt-Janmaat, who was selected to her first Dream Team of the seaosn.

Trinity Western's Ava Van Santen became the only player to be named to all three Dream Teams of the 2025 campaign. The Spartans star scored two tries at the hometown Langley stop and led Trinity Western to a bronze, their first ever Canada West Rugby 7s medal.
