RUG: ALB's Pierce scores twice to breathe new life into Pandas

Shelby Pierce earns CW Player of the Week honours

CALGARY – Alberta's Shelby Pierce was named the Canada West Rugby 15s Player of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.

Pierce scored two tries for a Pandas program trying desperately to get back into the win column after several seasons of unsuccessful conference play.

In a tight back-and-forth affair with the Lethbridge Pronghorns, Pierce scored a try early in the second half to extend the Pandas' lead to seven. After Lethbridge pulled back ahead, Pierce played hero in injury time.

The third-year took a pass on the outside and powered her way through the try zone, blocking and speeding pass the Pronghorns defenders.

Her two scores proved instrumental as the Pandas took down the Pronghorns 22-20 for their first CW victory since 2018.

The team will be back in action Saturday for a rematch with Lethbridge, this time on the road at 7 p.m. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.
