Ready for Tip-Off: Canada West Unveils 2025-26 Basketball Schedule

New season begins Oct. 24

June 25, 2025 - The countdown to a new season of CW hoops begins now! Canada West has officially unveiled its 2025-26 men's and women's basketball schedules.

The 12-week campaign sees Canada West's 17 programs each play 20 regular season games, starting Oct. 24 and concluding on Feb. 7. The top seven teams from the Prairie Division and five teams from the B.C. Division will qualify for the single elimination postseason, beginning Feb. 13.

The Canada West Final will be held the weekend of Feb. 27 to 28.

U SPORTS MVP Gage Grassick and the Saskatchewan Huskies women's program enter as defending conference champions, continuing their decade of CW dominance after claiming their eighth title in 11 seasons. They also reached the top of the U SPORTS mountain last spring, defeating Carleton in the national final to win their third national championship.

On the men's side, it was Nate Petrone and the Calgary Dinos who put an end to Victoria's three-year run as conference champs with an impressive run last spring. The Dinos took down the previously undefeated Vikes in the semis before beating UBC in the final, earning their first CW crown since 2019. Victoria got their revenge at U SPORTS nationals, however, claiming their ninth national title by defeating Calgary in the final.

This year's U SPORTS women's national championship is headed to Quebec City, hosted by Laval from March 5 to 8, while the Calgary Dinos will welcome the men's tournament from March 6 to 8.

WBB | Huskies aim to add another chapter to dynasty

Make it seven conference titles in nine seasons for the Lisa Thomaidis-led Saskatchewan Huskies, who continued their decade of dominance. They'll look to extend their dynasty in '25-26, coming off a historic campaign in which they captured both CW and U SPORTS championships.

Who can dethrone the Huskies? Well, the UBC Thunderbirds and Alberta Pandas will be keen to make a run with another year of experience under their belts. Both teams went 18-2 last season, tied with the Huskies for the best regular season record in the conference. The T-Birds came up just short against Saskatchewan in the CW Final, while Alberta earned the bronze medal.

Fans are in for a treat on Nov. 21 and 22, as Saskatchewan hosts UBC in a Canada West Final rematch between two of the country's premier programs. You can also circle Jan. 9 and 10 on your calendars, as Alberta hosts the Huskies in a key Prairie Division clash.

MBB | Dinos, Vikes look to build on historic seasons

As hosts of this year's U SPORTS Final 8, the Calgary Dinos will enter the new season with heightened expectations. Led by an incredible performance from Canada West and U SPORTS MVP Nate Petrone, the Dinos dethroned the Vikes last spring and put an end to Victoria's three-year run atop CW.

Calgary opens their campaign on the road against southern Alberta rival Lethbridge on Oct. 24.

Though they fell short of a conference four-peat, the Vikes got the last laugh on the national stage, winning their first U SPORTS title since 1997. Vikes head coach Murphy Burnatowski had a memorable first year at the helm, guiding his program to a 25-1 overall record and earning U SPORTS Coach of the Year honours.

The Vikes kick off their season at home, welcoming Trinity Western on Oct. 24.
