MSOC: Victoria, UNBC games in Prince George postponed

EDMONTON – Due to continued air quality concerns in Prince George, B.C., this weekend's Canada West men's soccer regular season games between the Victoria Vikes and UNBC Timberwolves have been postponed.

The games, originally scheduled for Friday, August 24 (6 p.m. PDT) and Saturday, August 25 (6 p.m. PDT), will be rescheduled at a later date. The decision to postpone the games was made Thursday morning, following discussions between Victora and UNBC, who agreed to postpone this weekend's matches ahead of Victoria travelling to Prince George.

As of Thursday morning, air quality in Prince George was rated as 10+ on Environment Canada's Air Quality Health Index (AQHI). Air quality for Prince George is forecasted to remain at 10+ heading into Friday morning, as forest fires in BC continue to impact air quality throughout Western Canada.

The Canada West Board of Directors approved a new air quality policy earlier this week, which recommends that members postpone a match if the AQHI is seven or greater.
