MSOC: Ritter West's heroics earn Player of the Week nod

Vikes rookie leads comeback with two second half goals

VANCOUVER - Harrison Ritter West was named the Canada West Men's Soccer Player of the Week after scoring a pair of goals for the Victoria Vikes on Saturday.

Ritter West came on as a substitute in the 53rd minute with the Vikes staring at a two-goal deficit against the visiting UNBC Timberwolves. The first-year wasted no time making an impact in front of his hometown Victoria crowd with a goal in the 55th minute. Ritter West tallied again in the 62nd minute with a strike from outside the box to draw the home side even at two.

Game log:
Friday, Sept. 10 - 7 min
Saturday, Sept. 11 – 38 min, 2 goals, 2 shots on goal in 2-2 T vs UNBC

The two goals by the rookie would be crucial, as the Vikes picked up a point with the 2-2 draw a night after downing the Timberwolves 2-1 in the season opener.

Ritter West will move forward as the CW nominee for the U SPORTS Athlete of the Week.

The Vikes (1-0-1) head to Abbotsford on Friday for a meeting (8:00 p.m. PDT) with the Fraser Valley Cascades (0-0-0). The two squads will enjoy an off day on Saturday before lining up again Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Both matches will be available live on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
