HKY: UBC goalie perfect in Championship series
UBC's Hugens earns CW Player of the Week honours

CALGARY - British Columbia's Elise Hugens was named the Canada West Hockey Player of the Week by the conference Tuesday.
Hugens posted two straight shutouts in the biggest games of the season. The first-year goaltender didn't allow a single goal as her UBC Thunderbirds swept the Saskatchewan Huskies to raise the Catherwood Cup.
She was iron-clad Friday, turning away all 13 shots she faced en route to a 4-0 whopping of the Huskies in game one.
The Sherwood Park, AB product completed the perfect weekend Saturday, again shedding every shot the Huskies fired her way. And UBC needed it — the team found no success on offence and took the game into overtime, tied at zero.
That performance proved clutch as UBC's Chanreet Bassi scored in the extra frame to secure the Thunderbirds' fourth-ever CW Championship title.
On the weekend, Hugens posted two shutouts, completing 121:38 straight minutes of locked-down hockey. Accordingly, she had a 0.00 goals against average and a sparkling 1.000 save percentage.
Hugens and the UBC Thunderbirds will now enjoy their title of Canada West Champions this offseason before returning to CW competition in the fall.
