HKY: UBC forwards heat up at the perfect time
Elliott, Huo named CW Players of the Week

CALGARY – UBC's Grace Elliott and Sam Huo were named the Canada West Hockey Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
Elliott operated with precision this past weekend, taking responsibility for three of her team's five goals.
She started by scoring the team's first goal in their first-ever Winter Classic, played between UBC and nearby rival Trinity Western. Elliot stayed with the forecheck, picking up a puck that squirted loose thanks to teammate Chanreet Bassi and making no mistake with a quick and perfectly-placed shot over the goalie's left pad.
She followed that up near the end of the second period, fighting for her place in front of the net to knock a bouncing rebound home.
UBC added another in the third to beat the Spartans 3-0 and improve to 21-2-2 on the season.
The second-year White Rock, BC product also notched the game-winner Saturday, deflecting a shot past the Spartans' goaltender in a 2-1 victory.
Elliott extended her point streak to 10 games while helping UBC make history. They became the first team in program history to go undefeated on home ice in a single season.
The defending CW champs are enjoying a five-point lead atop the CW standings.
Elliott and the T-Birds will be back on the ice Friday and Saturday when they visit the Regina Cougars. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. CST respectively. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.

Meanwhile, Sam Huo put up seven points in two games over the weekend. The rookie contributed on nearly half his team's goals as they beat down the Trinity Western Spartans.
Huo got on the scoresheet with a lightning-quick one-timer off a pass from behind the net in Thursday evening's game. The mark put the T-Birds up 2-1 in a back-and-forth affair. He then extended the lead to 5-3 moments before the second period expired, showcasing that electric shot with another one-timer.
The rookie notched his last of the weekend after gathering his own rebound and cranking a wrist shot past the Spartan's goaltender. He also showed off his skills as a playmaker, getting helpers on three goals as the T-Birds blasted the Spartans, 8-1.
The two victories helped UBC improve to third in the conference with 38 points on the season.
Huo, a Richmond, BC product, now sits third among rookies for goals this season with 11.
He and the T-Birds will be back in action Friday and Saturday when they host Regina at 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. PST respectively. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.
