HKY: TWU, SSK forwards combine for seven goals in weekend action
Dmytriw, Potomak named CW Players of the Week

CALGARY – Saskatchewan's Jared Dmytriw and Trinity Western's Amy Potomak were named the Canada West Hockey Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
Dmytriw opened the scoring for the Huskies in dramatic fashion Friday. As UBC set up their powerplay, Dmytriw stole the puck high in his defensive zone, raced past the Thunderbirds and sniped it over the goalie's glove for a short-handed dandy in the first period.
Dmytriw continued to turn heads as he made an excellent back door feed to teammate Vince Loschiavo to regain the lead in the second period. The Huskies went on to defeat the Thunderbirds, 4-2.
Dmytriw showed off his shot again Saturday, putting a quick one behind the UBC goalie from the top of the circle. He went on to notch the game winner on a wrap-around to help the Huskies sweep the T-Birds.
Dmytriw had a major hand in half of his team's goals over the weekend to make a statement early in the season.
He and the Huskies are now slated to host Alberta Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. local time. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.
Game log:
Oct. 14: 1 goal, 1 assist in 4-2 W at UBC
Oct. 15: 2 goals in 4-3 W at UBC
Meanwhile, Amy Potomak was eager to prove the conference's coaches wrong over the weekend, as her Spartans (ranked eighth in preseason polling) took down the fourth-ranked Alberta Pandas in a pair of games.
Potomak was the star, netting four impressive goals in the action.
She began her campaign Friday in the third period with the teams tied at one. Potomak stole the pass from a Pandas defender in Alberta's zone and took it hard to the net to give the Spartans the lead.
Then, for assurance, she tucked in a loose puck bouncing around the net in the third.
On Saturday, she netted the game's opening goal shorthanded. Potomak rushed the Pandas goaltender, grabbed the puck and spun it around into the net before the Alberta defenders could stop her.
Potomak added an empty-netter for assurance.
She and the Spartans will be back in action Saturday and Sunday, when they travel to take on the Manitoba Bisons at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively. You can catch the game exclusively on Canada West TV.
