HKY: SSK forward, ALB goalie stellar in key match-ups

Dmytriw, Oswald named CW Players of the Week

CALGARY – Saskatchewan's Jared Dmytriw and Alberta's Halle Oswald were named the Canada West Hockey Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.

Dmytriw takes home the honour for the second straight week after helping his Huskies take down the defending CW champions, the Alberta Golden Bears. Dmytriw notched an assist on the team's second goal Friday night, helping the Huskies jump out to an early 2-0 lead.

He then added assurance in the third, going to work at the net. The forward picked up a loose puck around the Bears' goalie, and wrapped it around the other side to shelf the game for Saskatchewan.

Dmytriw then opened the scoring for the Huskies Saturday, stealing a pass up the middle and firing it over the goaltender's glove for his second unassisted goal of the weekend.

The Huskies would go on to give up two goals to lose a tight one to the Bears, as both teams surrendered their first losses of the season.

Dmytriw's play has helped bolster the Huskies into the top spot in Canada West as they continue to tear through the conference.

He and the Huskies are now off on a bye week before they take on Regina in a home-and-home on November 4 and 5. Both games are slated for 7 p.m. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.

Game log:
Oct. 21: 1 goal, 1 assist in 5-2 W vs ALB
Oct. 22: 1 goal in 2-1 L vs ALB

Meanwhile, Halle Oswald was looking to shake up the conference standings this weekend, stonewalling the Saskatchewan Huskies to take two games and propel her Pandas up into second place.

Oswald faced some threatening chances from the Huskies Friday evening, and kept them all out save for one. Her 15 saves pushed the Pandas to a 2-1 victory.

She was perfect Saturday, shutting out an offensively talented Saskatchewan squad to help her team to the weekend sweep. Oswald stopped all 23 shots she faced in a defensive spectacle.

She and the Pandas will be back in action Friday and Saturday, when they host the Regina Cougars at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively. You can catch the games exclusively on Canada West TV.

Game log:
Oct. 21: 15 saves, 1 GA, .938 S% vs SSK
Oct. 22: 1 SO, 23 saves, 0 GA, 1.000S% vs SSK
