HKY: Kollman, Holtby named Players of the Week

Big games earn duo Player of the Week honours

VANCOUVER - Third-year Mount Royal forward Courtney Kollman and fourth-year Regina goaltender Brandon Holtby were named Canada West Hockey Players of the Week after posting standout performances over the weekend.

Kollman scored a pair of goals and added an assist in Mount Royal's big 8-3 win over crosstown rivals, the Calgary Dinos, on Friday night.

The Calgary, Alta. product scored the Cougars' second goal of the game early in the first period, and added a late power-play marker. Kollman also set up Mount Royal's third goal of the game, in the opening minutes of the second period.

With the two goals on the weekend, Kollman takes over top spot in the conference goal scoring race with five on the season.

Mount Royal (4-1-1) will take a trip north to Edmonton this weekend where they will take on the Alberta Pandas (3-0-1) and MacEwan Griffins (2-4).

Brandon Holtby backstopped the Regina Cougars to an impressive 3-0 win over the Alberta Golden Bears Saturday night in the Edmonton.

The fourth-year goaltender made 50 saves to record his first shutout and win of the season. Holtby's 50 saves are the most-ever recorded in a conference shutout.

The Cougars (1-4) will set their sights on the Saskatchewan Huskies (3-0) for a single-game matchup on November 5 in Regina.
