GOLF/XC: Conference hands out weekly golf and cross country awards

Saskatchewan's Hufsmith, UBC's Nobbs awarded; Calgary' Tse, UFV's Greene take honours

VANCOUVER - The Canada West announced its weekly award winners in championship sports, golf and cross country, on Tuesday.

Saskatchewan's Courtney Hufsmith was the big winner at the Huskies Sled Dog Open over the weekend. The fifth-year from Saskatoon, Sask. finished the 8-km race in a time of 29:40, nearly a minute clear of second place. Hufsmith's first-place finished helped Saskatchewan win the women's team title at the event.

On the men's side, UBC's Thomas Nobbs took the title at the Vikes Invitational in Victoria on Saturday. The third-year, from Vancouver, B.C., crossed the line 37 seconds ahead of the nearest runner in the men's 6-km race. Nobbs' final time of 18:12 and top finish helped the Thunderbirds win the team title in the event.

The 2021 Canada West Championships, hosted by the Saskatchewan Huskies, is set for October 30.


Calgary's Victoria Tse took the women's individual event at the Dinos Invitational September 26-27. Tse, a third-year from Calgary, Alta., finished the event Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club at +12 after shooting a 75 on Sunday and 81 on Monday.

 

Fraser Valley's Eli Greene carded a final round 71 on Monday to finish the Dinos Invitational ​ at the top of the leaderboard at +1. After starting the day three shots back of the leaders, the first-year from Nanaimo, B.C. was one of only two players to shoot a 71 in tough conditions on Day 2.
