GOLF: Top CW golfers ready to compete in Abbotsford
The 2023 CW Golf Championships tee off Monday

Oct. 2, 2023 - The best golfers from across Canada West have descended on Abbotsford, B.C. for the 2023 Canada West Golf Championships, hosted by University of the Fraser Valley. The championship gets underway with opening round action today, with round two set for tomorrow.
Participants are in for a treat with the event taking place at the pristine Ledgeview Golf Club, home course of PGA Tour champions Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin. The track is one of the most sought-after courses in the Fraser Valley, featuring rolling hills and spectacular nature-filled vistas. At 6,200 yards, it promises to offer competitors a fair but challenging test fit for a championship event.
The UFV Cascades appear poised for a strong showing on their home turf. The Cascades men’s team recently claimed the team title at the “Battle of the Bear Invitational,” hosted at the Okanagan Golf Club earlier in September. First-year golfer Lucas O'Dell took the individual title at that event, followed closely by teammates Eli Greene and Jackson Jacob. The UFV women’s team finished third at the same competition, sporting top-12 finishes from Lucy Park, Morgan Best, and Coral Hamade.
Joining the Cascades at the CW championships will be competitors from UBC, UBC Okanagan, Lethbridge, Manitoba, Victoria, Calgary, Alberta and Regina. The women’s side will feature 32 competitors, while 45 players fill out the men’s field.
Golfers to watch on the women’s side include UBC’s Jessica Ng, who finished second at the CW Championships last year while helping the Thunderbirds win the team title for the third straight time. UBC Okanagan’s Khushi Hooda returns looking to build on her individual bronze at last year’s conference championship. Alberta’s Kalee Seto is coming off a first-place finish at last week’s Dinos Open, just ahead of teammate Jenna Sand and Calgary’s Georgia Mackenzie.
On the men’s side, Justin Towill from UBC Okanagan will look to defend his crown after taking the individual title at last year’s CW championships. Calgary’s Ethan Banks, who won the CW individual title two years ago, enters in strong form after taking second overall at the Dinos Open last week. Keep an eye on UBC’s Mackenzie Bickell who has a trio of top-four finishes so far this year, including a first-place individual showing at the Oregon Tech Fall Invitational. Alberta’s Sean Robertson also promises to be in contention after coming off a big showing at the Dinos Open, where his first-place individual finish helped the Golden Bears take the team title at the event.
