GOLF: CW Golf Championships tee off in Chilliwack
Chilliwack Golf Club hosts 2025 CW Championship Tournament

Oct. 20, 2025 - The best golfers from across Canada West are set to descend on the Fraser Valley as the 2025 Canada West Golf Championships tee off on Monday and Tuesday Chilliwack Golf Course.
Student-athletes from nine schools will compete for both team and individual glory, including the UBCO Heat, Victoria Vikes, UBC Thunderbirds, Fraser Valley Cascades, Calgary Dinos, Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas, Lethbridge Pronghorns, Regina Cougars, and Manitoba Bisons.
This year's event takes place at the lush Chilliwack Golf Club. Established in 1958, the course offers a championship-level test set between Chilliwack and Abbotsford, just 45 minutes from Vancouver. With tree-lined fairways, meandering creeks and mountain vistas, it’s the perfect backdrop for crowning this year’s Canada West champions.
The 36-hole championship kicks off with the opening round on Monday, Oct. 20, followed by the final round on Tuesday.
Live scoring and additional championship information will be available on the CW Championship Homepage.
UBC women look to extend championship streak
The UBC Thunderbirds will enter as the team to beat, having claimed team gold at each CW championship since the event's inception in 2019. The 'Birds stretched their team title dynasty to five last year, with Elizabeth Labbe leading the way en route to the individual title. While Labbe has since graduated, UBC’s roster remains stacked — including fourth-year standout Jessica Ng, who claimed the 2023 Canada West individual crown.
The T-Birds are once again in strong form. Second-year golfer Sienna Harder made history last month by becoming the fifth UBC women’s golfer to win an NCAA Division I event after topping the field at Seattle University’s Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational.
Keep an eye on UBCO’s Julia Alexander-Carew, fresh off a a pair of impressive top finishes this season. She earned second-place at the Division II Grisham Memorial Shootout, then put together one of the best performances in program history at the OUAZ Invitational, shooting seven-under par to win the NAIA event by nine shots, claiming her sixth career individual championship. Alberta’s Kalee Seto has also been in top form, collecting titles at Lethbridge and Alberta earlier this season. With six university wins in three years, she'll be a threat to medal in Chilliwack.

Gillis, Heat Aim To Defend Titles
The UBCO Heat men made history last fall, capturing the first Canada West team championship in school history. Ryan Gillis led the way with the individual title and will look to defend his crown alongside a strong lineup that includes Ryan Vest, a Vernon native who recently tied for first at the NCAA Division II Western Washington Invitational. Rookie Oakley Mayner has had a strong debut, recently leading the Heat to a team title at the OUAZ Invitational with a third place individual finish.
A young UBC Thunderbirds squad will also be in the mix after a strong fourth-place team finish at the same event. First-year Manpreet Lalh led the way with a +2 performance, finishing just two strokes off the lead.
The Calgary Dinos boast a dangerous one-two punch with Adam Reed, the 2025 University of Calgary Invitational champion, and Sam McKeown, who claimed this year’s University of Alberta Invitational. Meanwhile, Alberta’s Ethan Howes, winner of the University of Lethbridge Invitational, will look to pace a strong Golden Bears lineup.
