GOLF: CW Champions named Golfers of the Week

UBC's Grace Bell, Calgary's Ethan Banks win CW titles

VANCOUVER - After winning the individual titles at the Canada West Championships this week in Squamish, B.C., UBC's Grace Bell and Calgary's Ethan Banks were named the conference's Golfers of the Week.

Bell, a first-year Thunderbird from Calgary, Alta. took a one-shot lead into the final round after posting a one-under-par 71 on Monday. Bell held off a host of golfers, including three UBC teammates, posting an even par 72 on Tuesday, to take the individual gold medal. In addition to the solo title, Bell and the Thunderbirds celebrated a team banner for the second time, after winning the inaugural championship in 2019.

A dramatic two-hole playoff finish to the men's tournament saw Calgary's Ethan Banks emerge victorious. The second-year Dino shot a 68 in the second round after posting a 69 on in Monday's first round. A bogey on the final hole didn't phase the Calgary, Alta. product as a steady pair of playoff holes resulted in a conference gold medal.
