FH: UBC forfeits games due to ineligible player

Sept. 26, 2023 – The University of British Columbia (UBC) women’s field hockey team has been stripped of two wins during the 2023 Canada West regular season due to an ineligible player participating in those games, the conference announced Tuesday.

As per U SPORTS regulations, British Columbia forfeits all results in which the ineligible player played.

UBC self-disclosed upon becoming aware of the eligibility violation.

“This is an unfortunate and challenging situation for all of our student-athletes who are impacted as well as the greater field hockey community,” said Kavie Toor, UBC’s Managing Director, Athletics and Recreation. “As soon as we identified the infraction, we immediately informed Canada West and U SPORTS officials of the situation while also committing to review our internal processes. As we move forward, we will continue to prioritize supporting our exceptional student-athletes on and off the field through the remainder of the season.”

The forfeits result in UBC being stripped of their regulation win Sept. 9 vs Calgary and their shootout win Sept. 10 vs Calgary.

UBC’s record was previously 2-1-1-0 (8 points). Their record is now 1-3-0-0 (3 points).
