Manitoba leads list with nine selections

Nov. 4, 2024 - As the anticipation builds towards the 87th BioSteel Hardy Cup this Saturday, Canada West has revealed its 2024 Football All-Star selections.

After a first place regular season finish, the Manitoba Bisons led the way with nine selections. Quarterback Jackson Tachinski and lineman Giordano Vaccaro were unanimous offensive picks, while punter Ben George and place-kicker Maya Turner were standouts from the specials teams category.

The parity across the conference was on full display, with all six teams sporting at least three representatives. The Hardy Cup host Saskatchewan Huskies had five players named, including a pair of unanimous offensive selections in running back Kody Gutek and receiver Daniel Wiebe.

Their Hardy Cup opponents from Regina had four representatives, with defensive back Brandon Wong being a unanimous selection.

Alberta and UBC each had five selections, including Golden Bears kick returner Alan Xiang named a unanimous selection.

The Calgary Dinos had a trio of all-stars, including a pair of unanimous selections in safety Nate Beauchemin and linebacker Liam Reid.

87th BioSteel Hardy Cup: Regina Rams at Saskatchewan Huskies

Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. CST at Griffiths Stadium, Saskatoon

A pair of fierce provincial rivals are set to clash in what promises to be a historic 87th BioSteel Hardy Cup this Saturday, as the Saskatchewan Huskies host the Regina Rams at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon.

Both teams pulled off miraculous late comebacks against higher seeded opponents in the semifinals, with the Rams knocking off the top seeded Manitoba Bisons and the Huskies shocking the UBC Thunderbirds.

The 87th BioSteel Hardy Cup will kick-off at 1 p.m. CST on Saturday and can be seen on CanadaWest.TV - Powered by BioSteel, as well as on SaskTel & Telus as part of the Canada West Football Showcase.

The conference will announce its major award winners on Thursday morning.
