CW Unveils 2024 Soccer Schedule
New season kicks off in late August
June 24, 2024 – The excitement of Canada West soccer is officially set to return in late August.
The conference has unveiled its 2024 soccer slate, with the men's schedule kicking off Aug. 23 and women's action starting Aug. 29.
The regular season will run through Oct. 20, with playoff action beginning Oct. 25.
The women's playoffs will feature a quarterfinal round from Oct. 25 to 27, followed by a "Final Four" format taking place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, hosted by the highest remaining Prairie Division seed.
Meanwhile, the men's postseason will see quarterfinal and semifinal action take place Oct. 25 to 27, followed by the gold medal game to be played between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2. The championship will be hosted by the highest remaining seed in the Pacific Division.
U SPORTS nationals are set for Nov. 7 to 10 with the men's tournament taking place at Ontario Tech in Oshawa, Ont., and the women's championship hosted by Dalhousie in Halifax, N.S.
WSOC: Spartans, Thunderbirds look to continue dominance
The fierce rivalry between Trinity Western and UBC was ignited again last season, with the two powerhouse programs meeting in both the Canada West and U SPORTS championship finals.
It was TWU who earned their 10th Canada West title by defeating UBC in a dramatic round of penalty kicks, while the T-Birds got their revenge by winning their eighth national championship with a 1-0 extra time victory in the U SPORTS gold medal game.
The two programs have accounted for 10 of the last 12 Canada West championships dating back to 2011, with only Calgary (2019) and Alberta (2013) interrupting their reign.
The teams will clash twice in the 2024 regular season, starting with a Sept. 20 battle at Thunderbird Stadium before an Oct. 19 rematch at Chase Office Field.
Victoria and Mount Royal will kick off the 2024 Canada West calendar with an Aug. 29 fixture in Calgary, before the spotlight turns to a rivalry matchup between TRU and UBCO on Aug. 30 in Kelowna. The following weekend will see every team in action, including the reigning CW bronze medalist Saskatchewan Huskies opening at home against MacEwan on Sept. 7.

MSOC: Cougars look to defend first CW title
For the first time in five seasons, there's a new defending champion in Canada West men's soccer.
The Mount Royal Cougars ended UBC's run of five straight conference titles last season, thrilling their home fans by earning their first ever CW championship with a 1-0 gold medal game victory over the T-Birds.
What will they do for an encore? We'll find out starting on Aug. 24 when the Cougars open their season at home against their southern Alberta rivals from Lethbridge.
While it wasn't the end result they had in mind, the T-Birds did extract some measure of revenge by defeating MRU in the U SPORTS bronze medal game last season. UBC will be eager to reclaim their perch atop the conference, beginning with their home opener against UBCO on Aug. 23.
That match is one of three games on Canada West's opening night, with other opening night matchups featuring UNBC visiting UFV and Victoria hosting Thompson Rivers.
