CW Football: Week 6 Headlines
Teams look to make moves ahead of Thanksgiving bye

Oct. 3, 2025 - A Saturday triple-header is on tap for Canada West football fans. With the Thanksgiving bye week looming, teams know this is the moment to make their move.
After five weeks of play, only two teams boast winning records: the 4-1 Regina Rams and Saskatchewan Huskies, who currently hold the inside track to host a BioSteel Hardy Cup semifinal.
Behind them, Calgary, UBC, and Manitoba are tangled in the middle of the standings at 2-3, while Alberta kept its season alive by notching its first win last week.
As an interesting scheduling wrinkle, all three Week 6 matchups are rematches of opening week.
Saturday’s action kicks off with UBC visiting Manitoba (Noon CDT at Princess Auto Stadium), followed by Calgary at Regina (2 p.m. CST at Mosaic Stadium). Saskatchewan closes the night under the lights, hosting Alberta at Griffiths Stadium (7 p.m. CST).
Here’s everything you need to know before Week 6.
UBC Thunderbirds (2-3) at Manitoba Bisons (2-3)
Saturday, Oct. 4 | Noon CDT at Princess Auto Stadium

How to watch:
Quick Overview: It's a season defining matchup with big playoff implications between two teams who are still searching for consistency entering Week 6.
Manitoba is happy to return to the friendly confines of Princess Auto Stadium, where they are 2-0 so far this season. The Bisons offence has averaged 26 points and 495 yards of offence at home, as opposed to 10.3 points and 327 yards on the road.
UBC will be hungry after being tripped up by previously winless Alberta last week, limited to just 259 total yards of offence in a 38-18 defeat. Running back Toluwalope Ayedegbe provided an early bright spot, opening the scoring with his fourth rushing touchdown of the season. The fourth year back is now second in the conference in rushing TDs, behind only Regina's Marshall Erichsen.
Head-to-Head: It's a rematch of the opening week matchup in which the T-Birds prevailed 21-9. Freshman quarterback Drew Viotto threw for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the 'Birds, while Derek Engel also got in on the action with a fourth-quarter major pass to Trey Montour.
Calgary Dinos (2-3) at No. 6 Regina Rams (4-1)
Sat, Oct. 4 | 2 p.m. CST at Mosaic Stadium

Quick Overview: It's a highly anticipated rematch between the two sides. Calgary nearly pulled off an improbable comeback over Regina back in Week 1, erasing a nine-point deficit with less than a minute to play before the Rams held on for a 43-36 OT win.
The Dinos know they'll need to stop Marshall Erichsen and the Rams furious running game to pull out a much needed win at Mosaic. Erichsen torched the Calgary defence for four rushing TDs in Week 1, including the game winner in OT, setting a new Regina school record in the process.
Erichsen is currently sitting at eight TDs this season, scoring at least one in all but a single game through five weeks of action. The third year Regina product is one rushing touchdown away from tying the school single season record of nine.
Head-to-Head: Calgary won 20 of 22 against Regina from 2008 to 2019, but the Rams have reversed the trend, winning six of the last seven in the series. Five of those seven have finished as one-score games as the two teams have had many memorable battles of late, including this year's opening week thriller.
Alberta Golden Bears (1-4) at No. 5 Saskatchewan Huskies (4-1)
Sat, Oct. 4 | 7 p.m. CST at Griffiths Stadium

How to watch:
- CW Football Showcase on SaskTel
- SaskTel maxTV and maxTV Stream: Channels 49/349
- TELUS Optik TV: Channels 997/998

Quick Overview: Alberta kept its playoff hopes alive by grabbing their first win of the season last week, but will need another monster effort to get a result against the nationally fifth ranked Huskies.
The Saskatchewan air attack has been lethal, led by Anton Amundrud, who is coming off a five touchdown game at Calgary last week. The fourth year QB leads all of U SPORTS with 328.2 passing yards per game, and is third in the nation with 14 touchdowns.
Another big performance from star receiver Carter Kettyle will be key for the visitors. The reigning CW BioSteel Offensive Player of the Week put up video game numbers in last week's 38-18 win over UBC, picking up a trio of touchdowns - including a trick-six connection in which he threw a TD pass to fellow receiver Chevy Thomas.
Head-to-Head: The opening week match between these two sides was a tale of two halves, with the Bears getting a fast start before the Huskies dominated the second-half en route to a 29-20 win at Foote Field.
