Sept. 25, 2026 - Whoa...we're halfway there?!

The midway point of the Canada West football season is here, and Week 4 features a pair of rivalry matchups with early playoff implications.

It starts Friday night with the Battle of Alberta at McMahon Stadium. Calgary (1-2) is looking to rebound from a double-overtime loss to Manitoba, while Alberta (0-3) is still searching for its first win.

On Saturday, No. 5 Saskatchewan visits No. 7 Regina in a meeting of provincial rivals both sitting at 2-1. A win would give either team a valuable edge in the race for home-field advantage in the BioSteel Hardy Cup playoffs.

The weekend wraps up with the No. 10 Manitoba Bisons hosting UBC in their Homecoming game. Both teams are also 2-1 and riding momentum coming off Week 3 victories.

Here’s everything you need to know heading into Week 4.

Alberta Golden Bears (0-3) at Calgary Dinos (1-2)

Friday, Sept. 25 | 7 p.m. MDT at McMahon Stadium

Quick Overview: Calgary returns home after a dramatic 38-36 double-overtime loss to Manitoba. The Dinos erased an early 21-3 deficit and forced overtime, but their potential game-tying two-point attempt in the second extra period fell incomplete.

Quarterback David Jordan has thrown for 840 yards and eight touchdowns through three games. His favourite target, Matt Sibley, has recorded at least seven catches and 100 receiving yards in every game this season, totalling 403 yards.

Calgary has lost two in a row after winning their season opener.

Alberta is looking to regroup after a 65-12 loss to Saskatchewan. Quarterback Christian Veilleux passed for 235 yards and rushed for 67 against the Huskies, while running back Seth Poelzer added 88 yards on 14 carries.

Friday’s Western Showdown gives Calgary a chance to move back to .500 and the Golden Bears an opportunity to claim their first win.

Head-to-Head: Calgary has won the last three regular-season meetings, including a 34-29 victory at McMahon Stadium last October. The rivals will meet again in Edmonton on Oct. 31.

No. 5 Saskatchewan Huskies (2-1) at No. 7 Regina Rams (2-1)

Saturday, Sept. 26 | 2 p.m. CST at Mosaic Stadium

How to watch:

Quick Overview: One of the conference’s most productive offences meets one of its stingiest defences in Regina. Saskatchewan is averaging 43.7 points and 508 yards per game, while the Rams are allowing just 13.7 points per contest.

The Huskies arrive after a 65-12 win over Alberta in which quarterback Anton Amundrud threw six touchdown passes. Rookie receiver Keaton Belsher leads Canada West with four receiving touchdowns through three games.

Regina is looking to respond to its first loss of the season. The Rams led UBC 20-10 at halftime last week but were shut out in the second half of a 25-20 defeat. Their ground game, averaging 186.3 yards per game, will face a Saskatchewan defence allowing just 94.3 rushing yards per contest.

Head-to-Head: These rivals have met in the last two BioSteel Hardy Cup finals, splitting the championships. Each of their past five meetings has been decided by five points or fewer.

UBC Thunderbirds (2-1) at No. 10 Manitoba Bisons (2-1)

Saturday, Sept. 26 | 5 p.m. CDT at Princess Auto Stadium

How to watch:

Quick Overview: Two teams riding Week 3 wins meet in Winnipeg for Manitoba’s Homecoming game. UBC rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Regina 25-20, while the Bisons held off Calgary 38-36 in double overtime.

Thunderbirds rookie Marvyn Larozar rushed for 208 yards and two touchdowns against the Rams. UBC’s defence shut out Regina after halftime and leads Canada West in rushing yards allowed, surrendering just 93.3 per game.

Manitoba quarterback Cole Anseeuw threw four touchdown passes against Calgary, with Nathan Udoh catching two of them. Running back Ishe Matanga turned in a massive performance with 72 rushing yards, 33 receiving yards and three total touchdowns. The Bisons are 2-0 at home this season and have won their last six home games overall.

Head-to-Head: The teams split their season series in 2025, with each team winning at home. UBC won a season-opening tilt 21-9, while the Herd claimed a 35-31 win in Week 6.
