CW BioSteel Players of the Week: Oct. 14

Five student-athletes recognized across CW

Oct. 14, 2025 - There was plenty to track across Canada West last weekend, including playoff races in soccer, the final regular season weekend of rugby 15s, and early season action in hockey.

The penultimate regular season weekend of soccer didn't disappoint, as the chase for playoff spots and positioning continued. Both UBC’s men’s and women’s squads extended their impressive undefeated runs, while Calgary’s women earned bragging rights in the Crowchild Classic with a key win over Prairie Division rival Mount Royal.

Rugby 15s action wrapped up its regular season Friday as Lethbridge powered past Calgary 55-14. The playoff bracket is now set, with Thursday’s semifinals featuring top-seeded Victoria taking on host Alberta, and No. 2 UBC facing No. 3 Lethbridge.

On the ice, several teams are finding their stride early. Alberta and UBC both notched weekend sweeps in women’s action, while on the men’s side it was Manitoba, UBC, and Alberta skating away with a pair of victories.

Let's get to our BioSteel Players of the Week.

Women's Soccer - Ruby Nicholas (Victoria Vikes)

Oct. 10 at UFV: 2 assists in 3-0 win

Oct. 11 at TWU: 1 goal in 2-2 tie

Ruby Nicholas contributed a goal and two assists for the Vikes over two games last weekend, helping the Vikes pick up crucial points as the regular season winds down. Her two assists came in a 3-0 Vikes’ win over Fraser Valley on Friday. She then notched her third third goal of the season against the Trinity Western Spartans in a 2-2 tie.

She's been a key driver for the Victoria offence so far this season, tied for second in the conference with six assists.
