CW BioSteel Players of the Week: Nov. 4
15 student-athletes recognized across CW

Nov. 4, 2025 - It was another weekend packed with championship drama across Canada West.
UBC’s women’s soccer team capped another perfect campaign with a 2–0 win over Trinity Western in the conference final, securing back-to-back titles while only allowing a single goal all season.
On the men’s side, the Mount Royal Cougars used a dramatic late goal from Chanan Chanda to earn their second championship in three years, spoiling UBC’s bid for an undefeated season.
UBC’s women’s rugby squad added to the weekend’s trophy haul, capturing their second straight U SPORTS national title on home turf. The Thunderbirds edged rival Victoria 15-13 in thrilling fashion, with Adia Pye scoring a walk-off try. Charity Williams earned Championship MVP honours after an outstanding two-way performance.
Meanwhile on the gridiron, the stage is set for a familiar showdown in the 88th BioSteel Hardy Cup. The Saskatchewan Huskies punched their ticket with a commanding 26–7 win over UBC, while the defending champion Regina Rams outlasted Manitoba 32–29 in double overtime. Rookie kicker Ty Gorniak delivered the heroics, going a perfect five-for-five on field goals, including the game tying kick with no time remaining, and the eventual game-winner.
Let's get to our BioSteel Players of the Week.
Women's Soccer - Sienna Gibson (UBC Thunderbirds)
Oct. 30 vs MRU: 1 shot on goal in 2-1 win
Oct. 31 vs TWU: 1 goal, 2 shots on goal in 2-0 win
The second year midfielder was named Championship MVP after leading the Thunderbirds to their second straight CW title last weekend.
She helped control the pace of play and was a key factor in a 2-1 semifinal win over Mount Royal on Thursday. Gibson then scored the opening goal and eventual game winner in Friday's conference final against Trinity Western.

Men's Soccer - Tim Beckedahl (Mount Royal Cougars)
Nov. 1 vs UBC: 90 minutes played in 2-1 win
The second year from Hamburg, Germany was named the conference's Championship MVP after leading the Cougars to a dramatic championship win over previously undefeated UBC.
The midfielder was key to the Cougars' 2-1 win, displaying offensive creativity and controlling the pace of play while also shutting down the Thunderbirds dangerous counter attack.
“[Tim] just kept going and played for the team,” said Cougars Head Coach Ryan Gyaki after the game. “To finish as man of the match in a final is impressive.”

Rugby 15s - Charity Williams (UBC Thunderbirds)
Williams was a complete force at the 2025 U SPORTS Rugby Championships, as the second year wing was named Championship MVP after leading the Thunderbirds to a memorable championship in front of their home crowd. It marked the second straight national championship for UBC.
The product of Esquimalt, B.C. scored a try in both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, with her speed and power providing a constant threat for opposing defences. Her defensive prowess also made the T-Birds nearly impossible to score on all week long, with no opponent scoring more than two tries.
In addition to being named Championship MVP, Williams was selected to the Tournament All-Star team.

It included a big 28-yard connection to Emmett Steadman that brought the Rams all the way into field goal territory, setting up Ty Gorniak's game tying kick with no time on the clock.
