CW announces championship dates

Dates set for 2021-22 championship sports

VANCOUVER – The Canada West announced a number of championship dates Wednesday, as the conference wrapped up the release of its 2021-22 schedules.

Canada West banners will once again be awarded in golf (Oct. 4-5), cross country (Oct. 30), swimming (Nov. 26-28), curling (Feb. 5-6), wrestling (Feb. 11-12), and track and field (Feb. 25-26) in the 2021-22 season. Dates for CW Rugby 7s will be announced at a later date.

The Canada West Golf Championships will be the first conference banners to be awarded in 2021 with UBC playing host to the event October 4-5. The UBC Thunderbirds (women's) and Fraser Valley Cascades (men's) will enter as defending champions after winning titles at the inaugural CW Golf Championships in 2019. More details on the host course will be announced at a later date.

The 2021 Cross Country Championships are headed to Saskatoon with the Saskatchewan Huskies set to host the conference's best on October 30. The Calgary Dinos (men's) look to make it four straight conference titles in 2021. The Dinos also enter the season as the two-time defending U SPORTS champions. The UBC Thunderbirds (women's) will also look to keep their conference title streak alive as they seek their third consecutive CW banner.

The conference's swimming championships will take place in Edmonton November 26-28 with the Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas playing host to the event. Teams will be looking to halt a dominant streak by the UBC Thunderbirds in recent years. The women's team has earned 11 straight conference titles, while the men's team has won the last seven banners.

Regina will host the CW Curling Championships for the first time in 2022 with the event slated for February 5-6. The Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas hold the title of reigning champions in both men's and women's curling.

Saskatchewan will also host the conference's wrestling championships February 11-12. On the men's side, the Huskies will be looking to defend their title at home, while the Calgary Dinos look to make it back-to-back women's championships.

The 2021-22 Track & Field Championships will take place February 25-26, hosted by the University of Manitoba. The Saskatchewan Huskies (women's) have won three straight conference banners, from 2018-20, and will look to make it four in Winnipeg. The Calgary Dinos (men's) took top spot and conference bragging rights in 2019-20.
