CW BioSteel Players of the Week: Oct. 1

11 standouts recognized across CW

Oct. 1, 2025 - The competition is heating up across Canada West as playoff races begin to take shape in rugby, soccer, field hockey, and football.

On the gridiron, the Alberta Golden Bears earned their first win of the season over UBC, powered by three touchdowns from star receiver Carter Kettyle. Saskatchewan’s Anton Amundrud threw five touchdowns to lead the Huskies past Calgary, while Marshall Erichsen’s three scores helped the Regina Rams charge past Manitoba.

In women’s rugby, UBC continued its surge less than a month out from hosting U SPORTS nationals, defeating Lethbridge at home. Alberta also picked up a key result on the prairies, edging Calgary 29-24.

Field hockey saw Victoria dominate Calgary with back-to-back wins, while the playoff chase intensified in soccer. Saskatchewan’s women grabbed crucial victories over MacEwan and Alberta, and Fraser Valley got back into the race with two big wins of their own. On the men’s side, Mount Royal picked up two key wins, MacEwan stunned Calgary 1-0 on senior day to grab their first win of the season, and UBC extended its unbeaten run to ten games.

Championship sports are also into full swing, with multiple golf and XC teams in action.
