Canada West Unveils '26-27 Hockey Schedules

Conference drops the puck on a new season Oct. 9

June 25, 2026 - Fresh off another thrilling season that saw UBC reclaim the Catherwood Cup and Saskatchewan capture a second straight Hardy Trophy, Canada West has officially unveiled its 2026-27 hockey schedule.

The puck drops Oct. 9, kicking off a 28-game regular season filled with heated rivalries and a new chase for conference supremacy.

The 16-week regular season runs through Feb. 20, with playoffs beginning Feb. 26. The Canada West Finals are scheduled to begin March 12.

On the women's side, the U SPORTS Championship heads to Fredericton, N.B., where the University of New Brunswick will host the tournament from March 25-28. At the same time, the men's national championship will be contested in Trois-Rivières, Que., with UQTR hosting the U Cup.

The T-Birds captured their fourth Catherwood Cup in five seasons.

WHKY | T-Birds soar back to the top

UBC reclaimed the Catherwood Cup last season, capturing its fourth Canada West championship in five years after defeating Cinderella-story Manitoba in the conference final.

The Bisons authored one of the postseason's most memorable runs, upsetting Mount Royal in the semifinals to secure a berth at both the Canada West Final and U SPORTS nationals.

Fans won't have to wait long for a rematch between the conference finalists. UBC opens its season with a trip to Winnipeg on Oct. 9 and 10, while Manitoba returns the favour Dec. 4 and 5 in Vancouver.

Opening weekend also features multiple intriguing matchups across the conference. Mount Royal opens at MacEwan, Saskatchewan visits Calgary, while Regina heads west to take on Trinity Western. Alberta opens the following weekend with a home-and-home series against their cross-town rivals from MacEwan.

MHKY | Huskies eye three-peat

The Saskatchewan Huskies enter 2026-27 as the team to beat after securing a second consecutive Canada West championship last spring.

The Huskies' path to their latest Hardy Trophy was nothing short of remarkable, going 6-0 in the postseason. After defeating Alberta in the quarter-finals, Saskatchewan swept powerhouse UBC in the semis before completing another road sweep of Mount Royal in a rematch of the 2025 Canada West Final.

Now, they'll look to become the first team to accomplish a three-peat since Alberta from 2017-19.

There will be no shortage of challengers. UBC posted a remarkable 23-2-2-1 regular season record, while MacEwan enjoyed a breakthrough campaign that included hosting a playoff series for the first time in program history.

Saskatchewan's quest for a three-peat begins immediately with a challenging opening weekend at home against Calgary on Oct. 9 and 10. Other opening weekend matchups include Manitoba at UBC, Mount Royal hosting MacEwan, and Trinity Western heading to Regina. Alberta opens their campaign the following weekend with a cross-town rivalry home-and-home series against the Griffins.

Fans will have to wait until near the end of the regular season for a Canada West final rematch between MRU and Saskatchewan, taking place in Saskatoon on Feb. 12 and 13.
