Canada West teams to host third annual “Stick Up for Pride Tape” Games

Jan. 14, 2026 – Hockey student-athletes across Canada West will come together in support of inclusion as the conference prepares to host its third annual “Stick Up for Pride Tape Games,” beginning this weekend and continuing throughout the month of January.
Since the initiatives's launch in 2024, hundreds of Canada West hockey student-athletes have shown support for the LGBTQ+ community by wearing Pride Tape on their sticks during warmups and in games. The campaign celebrates diversity and reinforces a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for student-athletes, coaches, officials, and fans across the conference.
In addition to Pride Tape being worn on the ice, educational information and resources will be shared with fans both in-arena and on social media.
Stick Up for Pride Tape Games will be held at rinks across the conference, with each Canada West member institution having the opportunity to designate a Pride Tape game in either women’s or men’s hockey during the month of January.
The initiative will also spotlight two organizations advancing inclusion through sport: Pride Tape and You Can Play. Fans will be encouraged to learn more about both organizations and how they can support their work through Canada West’s social media channels during the campaign.
