Canada West, SaskTel go behind the scenes with 'The Lost Season'

Docuseries chronicles lost 2020 football season

VANCOUVER - In addition to announcing an extension to their partnership this week, Canada West and SaskTel are proud to announce the release of a new six-part docuseries.

Entitled 'The Lost Season,' the series chronicles how Canada West football teams navigated the loss of the 2020 fall season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

SaskTel subscribers can watch 'The Lost Season' in its entirety on maxTV Local on Demand and maxTV Stream. Fans can also catch the series on the SaskTel and Canada West YouTube pages. ​ 

Despite the cancellation of the conference season, programs continued to develop student-athletes on and off of the field, strictly following the various COVID-19 protocols in place on their respective campuses. The Lost Season will give fans in inside look at what the resumption of practices looked like in the fall of 2020 while sharing the impact and experiences of the players and coaches.

“There is no doubting the profound affect the pandemic has had on university athletes. ​ As part of SaskTel’s commitment to promoting important stories like this one, we are proud to produce and broadcast ‘The Lost Season’ on maxTV Local on Demand,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO. “The result of a collaborate effort between our production partner, Bamboo Shoots, and university athletics, this compelling series shows the resilience of the athletes during this challenging time.“

Bamboo Shoots led the production of the series which took place throughout 2020 and concluded prior to the 2021 season. The series covers a variety of stories within the six CW football programs including, modified team activities, fifth-year players retaining a final season of eligibility, the commitment and importance of volunteer coaches, and more.

“Even with the loss of the 2020 season, SaskTel continues to deliver quality content that promotes our Canada West student-athletes and programs,” said Canada West Managing Director, Rocky Olfert. “Along with their production partner Bamboo Shoots, ‘The Lost Season’ series that they have created showcases some of the stories that make the Canada West football experience so special. Our student-athletes remained committed and hard at work in order to hit the field again in 2021, this docuseries gives fans a bit of an insight into the effort put forth by our programs.”

Fans looking forward to the return of live Canada West football will be able to watch a new season of the Canada West Football Showcase on SaskTel and TELUS and view all of the 2021 season on Canada West TV Presented by Co-op.
