Canada West Rolls Out '26-27 Basketball Schedule
New season tips off Oct. 23
June 26, 2026 - Canada West hoops fans can officially mark their calendars, as the conference has released its 2026-27 men’s and women’s basketball schedules.
The new campaign tips off on Oct. 23 with an opening night showdown between a pair of provincial rivals as Winnipeg visits Brandon, then continues the next night as UNBC welcomes Thompson Rivers. The schedule kicks into full gear the following weekend with a full slate of games highlighted by Saskatchewan visiting Calgary in a rematch of last year’s women’s semifinal stunner.
All teams will once again play a 20-game regular season, with action running through Feb. 13. The Canada West postseason begins Feb. 19 and culminates with the Final Four taking place Feb. 26-28.
The road to a national championship will lead to Halifax this season, as the Scotiabank Centre hosts both the 2027 U SPORTS Men's and Women's Final 8 Basketball Championships in early March. The women's tournament will be hosted by Acadia University, while Dalhousie University will serve as host of the men's championship.
WBB | Dinos ready to roar after breakthrough title
After more than two decades, the Calgary Dinos find themselves back on top of Canada West women’s basketball.
The Dinos captured their first conference title since 2001 last season, upsetting a perfect Saskatchewan Huskies squad in the semifinals before defeating UBC in the Canada West final. Calgary went on to add a U SPORTS bronze medal, capping what was one of the program’s most memorable seasons.
The Huskies, however, still had the final word on the national stage. After seeing their two-year Canada West title streak snapped, Saskatchewan responded by repeating as U SPORTS champions with a 77-68 win over UNB in the national final.
Fans won’t have to wait long for another chapter between the two Prairie powers, as Saskatchewan opens its season on the road against Calgary on Oct. 30 and 31.
UBC will also be looking to take another step after earning a Canada West silver, while a deep conference field will once again make the road to the postseason a difficult one.

MBB | Vikes back on top after fourth title in five seasons
The Victoria Vikes returned to the top of the Canada West mountain last season, capturing their fourth conference title in five seasons with a win over UBC in the Canada West final.
Victoria’s latest championship further cemented one of the conference’s most impressive dynasty runs, while the Thunderbirds will enter the new season looking to turn last year’s silver-medal finish into another championship push.
The Vikes open their season on Oct. 30 at home against Fraser Valley before visiting Trinity Western on Oct. 31. A highly anticipated Canada West final rematch is set for Nov. 27, when the T-Birds head to the island to take on the Vikes. The two programs will meet again in Vancouver on Jan. 8 and 9.
