Canada West Reveals 2025 Field Hockey Slate

June 24, 2025 – Sticks down, eyes up - a new season of Canada West field hockey is ready to roll as the conference has announced its 2025 regular season schedule.

When the ball drops, it'll once again be Calgary and UBC vying to stop Victoria's half decade of domination. The Vikes continued their dynasty last season, not only capturing their sixth straight conference crown, but their sixth consecutive national title as well.

While the Vikes once again finished on top, the race for last year's conference championship was one of the tightest in recent memory. The Thunderbirds pushed Victoria to the brink by setting up a winner-take-all showdown between the two rivals on the final day of the regular season. Victoria ultimately prevailed in that contest with a hard fought 3-0 victory to retain their crown.

The Vikes would go on to sweep their way through the new look Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS Championship, an event which featured a four team round robin for the first time since 2016. The Vikes didn't concede a goal against while marching to their 17th national title in program history, defeating host York 1-0 in the gold medal game.

Canada West field hockey fans can circle Sept. 6 and 7 on their calendars, as UBC visits Calgary for a season opening weekend series. Victoria opens their title defence the following weekend, also heading east to clash with the Dinos.

Each team plays eight regular season games and faces each opponent four times, twice at home and twice on the road, concluding with a crucial series between UBC and Victoria Oct. 18 and 19 on the island. The regular season champion is the conference champion and will advance to the Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS National Championship, to be hosted Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
