Canada West Football Showcase returns in 2021

Canada West, SaskTel ink football extension

VANCOUVER - Canada West football will return to the airways in 2021 as the conference and SaskTel announced a one-year extension on their football broadcast rights agreement.

Branded as the Canada West Football Showcase, conference gridiron action has been televised by SaskTel since the 2017 season, with games available in Saskatchewan on SaskTel maxTV and maxTV Stream.

Fans in Saskatchewan will continue to receive unparalleled coverage of the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Rams, with all their games televised live on maxTV.

“As a longtime supporter of Saskatchewan athletics from grassroots programs to the university and professional levels, we know how excited the athletes and fans are for the return to the field,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO. “We are pleased to once again partner with Canada West to broadcast the CW Football Showcase on maxTV.”

SaskTel is set to produce and broadcast nine games this season including a double-header on the opening day of the 2021 season. All University of Regina Rams and University of Saskatchewan Huskies will be shown live on maxTV and maxTV Stream and will be available after the original air date on maxTV Local on Demand.

The Regina Rams visit the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. CDT to kickoff the CW Football Showcase. The second game of the double-header pits the Saskatchewan Huskies against the Calgary Dinos in a rematch of the 2019 Hardy Cup at 4:00 p.m. MDT in Calgary.

In Week 2, the CW Football Showcase heads to Regina as the Rams play host the Dinos on Saturday, October 2 at 2:00 p.m. CST. The Huskies versus the UBC Thunderbirds can also be seen live on maxTV at 8:00 p.m. CST.

Canada West will announce the Showcase games for Weeks 4 and 5 following the conference-wide bye in Week 3. The broadcast schedule for Weeks 6 and 7 will be announced at a later date.

SaskTel maxTV will once again broadcast both of the Hardy Cup semifinals and the 84th Hardy Cup in November.

“We’re looking forward to having our student-athletes back on the field this fall and are excited to partner with SaskTel for a fourth season of the Canada West Football Showcase,” said CW Vice President of Marketing and Communications Steve Tuckwood. “SaskTel has been tremendous in its commitment to showcasing our Canada West student-athletes and programs through their continued coverage over the past three seasons.”

As part of the extension, TELUS Optik TV in British Columbia and Alberta will remain the exclusive television home of the CW Football Showcase in those provinces.

Since becoming the official television home of Canada West, more than 50 conference games have been aired on SaskTel maxTV, including the last three Hardy Cups.
