Canada West adopts proof of COVID-19 vaccination policy

Board approves policy for 2021-22 season

VANCOUVER – Canada West announced Friday that it has adopted a proof of COVID-19 vaccination policy for the 2021-22 season.

The conference's Board of Directors voted unanimously to adopt the policy, which will go into effect immediately.

The policy will require all Canada West participants to have received a first dose of an approved Health Canada or World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 vaccine by September 9, 2021. A second dose must be received no later than October 17, 2021, in order to continue participation in university sport activity between Canada West member institutions.

Canada West participants include all student-athletes, coaches, managers, medical staff, strength and conditioning coaches, all event staff and officials, in attendance at competitions.

Despite this policy, Canada West will respect any accommodation measures implemented by an individual institution to address a participant’s inability to be vaccinated for a reason protected by the applicable provincial human rights legislation. The Canada West policy does not supersede provincial or institutional policies that may be in place.
