University of Brandon Bobcats Men's Basketball, 1984-89
Patrick Jebbison is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever wear Brandon University blue and gold, leaving a lasting mark on the Bobcats program during a period of unprecedented national success.
Recruited from Martin Grove Collegiate in Etobicoke, Ontario by legendary head coach Jerry Hemmings, Jebbison joined the Bobcats in 1984 and developed steadily over five seasons into one of the conference’s most complete players. He earned GPAC all-rookie honours in his first season and followed with a second-team all-star selection in 1985-86, leading the conference in field goal percentage while averaging 16.6 points per game.
The steady forward played a key role in Brandon’s rise to national prominence in 1986-87, helping the Bobcats capture their first-ever national championship. That season, he was a co-winner of the team’s MVP award, earned GPAC first-team all-star recognition, and led the conference in field goal percentage while averaging more than 20 points per game.
His university career reached its peak over his final two seasons. In 1987-88, Jebbison averaged 18.8 points per game, was named GPAC Most Valuable Player, earned First Team All-Canadian honours, and captured the Mike Moser Memorial Award as the top men’s basketball player in Canada while helping Brandon defend its national title. He repeated as national player of the year in 1988-89, averaging a career-high 20.9 points per game and earning GPAC MVP and First Team All-Canadian honours once again.
The 1989 national championship provided one of the defining moments of Jebbison’s career, as he made a critical blocked shot in the final seconds to secure a 74-73 victory over the Victoria Vikes and deliver the Bobcats their third consecutive national title.
A versatile and unselfish performer, Jebbison was known for his ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor. As coach Jerry Hemmings once noted, “A very good all-around player, very unselfish. For six-five, tremendous rebounder, shot-blocker and really developed his ability to go from playing inside to developing his outside shot. Every year he got better.”
Jebbison later represented Canada at the 1989 World University Games and the 1991 Pan American Games. His career has been honoured with induction into the Brandon University Sports Wall of Fame, the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.

ABOUT THE CANADA WEST HALL OF FAME
For the last century, organized university sport has been a central part of the student experience at institutions across Western Canada. Beginning with the University of Manitoba capturing the first Western Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union (WCIAU) men's hockey banner in 1919-20, student-athletes have been competing to reach their full potential in sport and the classroom, while enriching campus life.
To commemorate 100 years of university sport across Western Canada, the Canada West Hall of Fame was created in the spring of 2019. This year's induction class will be unveiled throughout the 2025-26 season.
