Blair opens 2020-21 Canada West Hall of Fame class

Calgary football star becomes 101st conference Hall of Famer

EDMONTON – Vanier Cup and Grey Cup champion Don Blair has entered the Canada West Hall of Fame.

The former standout receiver at the University of Calgary was announced Wednesday as the first inductee in the class of 2020-21, as the conference's Hall of Fame begins its second year.

Blair played four seasons with Calgary between 1992 and 1995, capping off his university career with one of the greatest seasons in Canadian university football history.

In 1995 Blair earned a conference record 1,112 receiving yards, while also posting a Canada West single-season record 15 receiving touchdowns. He would go on to be named Hec Crighton Trophy winner as the nation's top player.

Blair played a starring role for the Dinos during their run to the Vanier Cup. In the national championship game, Blair scored a Vanier Cup record 24 points on four touchdowns, as the Dinos roared to a 54-24 win over Western.

After his university career, Blair went on to play eight seasons in the Canadian Football League, including a Grey Cup championship season in 2000 with the B.C. Lions.

He becomes the 101st inductee (22nd from Calgary) in the conference's Hall of Fame, after 100 inductees were honoured last season as part of Canada West's celebration of 100 years of university sport in Western Canada.
