BB: WPG guard, REG forward put on shows in final weekend before break
Giles, Millar named CW Players of the Week

CALGARY – Winnipeg's Kyanna Giles and Regina's Carter Millar were named the Canada West Basketball Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
Giles put on a clinic Saturday evening at the Healthy Living Centre in Brandon. She closed out the first half of the Wesmen's impressive season in record-breaking fashion. Giles became the first Wesmen to post more than 40 points and 10 rebounds in Canada West competition as she pushed her team up to second place heading into the break.
Giles' 43 points puts her fifth in conference history for points in a game. Giles' name is already littered throughout the CW record book. The Winnipeg product ranks 13th all time in career points per game, 15th in career steals per game, and 18th in double-doubles.
Giles did what leaders do in the third quarter as her Wesmen battled back and forth with the Brandon Bobcats, who threatened an upset. She took control, going for two lay-ups, finding her teammate for a three-pointer then matching with one of her own from distance to give her team a 10-point lead they would maintain from there.
Giles was dominant in both Friday and Saturday night's games on the glass, putting up 20 rebounds on the weekend and moving herself into fourth in the conference as a guard.
Giles goes into the break atop Canada West in scoring while her 7-1 Wesmen rank second.
They'll be back in action Jan. 6 & 7, when they travel to Calgary for a set of 6 p.m. MST games. You can tune in on Canada West TV, where sport passes are still available to catch all the second-half action.

Dec. 3: 43 pts, 13 rebs, 4 asts, 1 stl in 84-62 W at BDN
Meanwhile, Carter Millar was a force to be reckoned with in Kelowna over the weekend. Millar was absolutely everywhere, slashing to the basket, knocking down threes, finding his teammates, and dominating the boards in two all-around efforts.
He began his weekend Friday with 31 points, accounting for 36 per cent of his team's scoring in a tight 86-81 victory over the UBCO Heat. He put up a convincing double-double with 17 rebounds. The forward also showed off his shooting, going 50 per cent from beyond the stripe while tucking away seven of seven free throws.
The pain in UBCO's side refused to go away Saturday, as Millar went off for 29 points, another 17 rebounds and three assists. This time, the Heat finished on top, but it was not for a lack of effort from Millar, who also put up five steals on the weekend.
The triple threat ranks in the conference's top ten in points, rebounds and three-point percentage, having established himself as a game-changer for the Cougars.
The split with UBCO puts Regina at third in the conference heading into the winter break.
The team will return to the hardcourt Jan. 6 & 7 when they host Victoria at 8:00 p.m. CST both nights. You can catch the games exclusively on Canada West TV.
