BB: Weaver, Audu shine on the hardcourt

Duo named conference's Basketball Players of the Week

VANCOUVER - Canada West announced Lethbridge's Haily Weaver and UBC's Grant Audu as the conference's Basketball Players of the Week on Tuesday.

Weaver's back-to-back double-double's helped the Pronghorns to a pair of wins, while Audu's performance led UBC to two victories on the road.

Weaver opened the weekend with a 13 point, 12 rebound performance against the Mount Royal Cougars. The fourth-year forward scored five points in the fourth quarter as the Pronghorns outscored the Cougars 22-7 in the final frame to win 65-56.

On Saturday, the Edmonton, Alta. native racked up 24 points and hauled in another 11 rebounds to go along with four steals and a pair of assists in a 74-48 Lethbridge victory that moved the Pronghorns up third in the Central Division.

The two double-doubles were the first and second of the season for Weaver.

Lethbridge (2-4) hosts the MacEwan Griffins (1-3) on the final weekend before the semester break. The games Friday and Saturday are both available on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.

Fourth-year guard Grant Audu helped the Thunderbirds remain unbeaten in a pair of road games against the UNBC Timberwolves on the weekend.

The Toronto, Ont. native scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in Friday' nights 85-76 win in Prince George, B.C.

On Saturday, Audu scored a game-high 23 points, while adding five rebounds and five assists in 27 minutes as UBC cruised to a 101-69 win, their eighth straight to start the season.

Audu is fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.4 points per game this season.

UBC (8-0) hosts Trinity Western (0-4) for a pair of games this weekend ahead of the semester break. Both games are available on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
