Gill, Tsegakele named CW Players of the Week
CALGARY – Brandon's Anthony Tsegakele and Trinity Western's Jayden Gill were named the Canada West Basketball Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
Tsegakele continued his hot start to the Canada West season over the weekend, notching double-doubles in each of his team's games to help keep the Bobcats atop the conference standings.
The third-year forward first took down the reigning U SPORTS silver medalists in the Saskatchewan Huskies with a statement 96-81 victory Friday evening. Tsegakele put up 21 points, 11 rebounds and a block to lead the Bobcats.
In what was a semi coming home moment for the now Saskatchewan Rattler, Tsegakele attracted his own cheering section in the Huskies' house. The fans were in for a treat Saturday as Tsegakele helped his Bobcats surmount a sizeable Saskatchewan lead, contributing all over the floor with a block, a lay-up, a couple key three-pointers and a free throw to help Brandon complete the comeback late in the fourth quarter.
Tsegakele ended the night with 18 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. He ranks fifth in Canada West scoring with 21.9 points per game and second in rebounding with 11.3.
He and the Bobcats are now set to travel to Winnipeg for a Thursday evening game at 8 p.m. CST. They'll then host the Wesmen Saturday at 7 p.m. CST. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.

Meanwhile, Jayden Gill had a dominant performance in her team's sweep of the Victoria Vikes. The third-year guard put up an incredible 60 points on the weekend, as she pushed her team up to fourth in the conference standings.
Gill went off for 30 points Friday evening as the Spartans jostled with the Vikes right until the end of the fourth quarter. She showed her nerves of steel down the stretch, going for two key lay-ups then knocking down two free throws to put her team up a basket with 1:24 left. Her intensity on defence was instrumental, as she blocked and stole the ball from the Vikes in the game's final minutes.
She equalled her point total Saturday while finding her teammates for quality looks. Gill posted five assists, two blocks and four steals in another hard-fought victory. When Victoria started to make a run late in the fourth, Gill again played hero with two three-pointers to extend the Spartans' lead.
Her efforts helped Trinity Western improve to 6-2 on the season.
