BB: REG, TWU guards lead teams in momentous wins

Belmore, Bourcier named CW Players of the Week

CALGARY – Regina's Jade Belmore and Trinity Western's Mason Bourcier were named the Canada West Basketball Players of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.

Belmore picked up right where she left off last season, translating her Rookie of the Year status into her sophomore year. She set the tone for her Regina Cougars right off the tip Friday evening, opening up the game against the reigning CW champions (Saskatchewan Huskies) with a jumper followed by a three-point shot.

Belmore went on a tear against the team voted by coaches to repeat as champions this year, as she put up 28 points on the night. She led her team in taking down the revered Huskies, 108-95.

The Regina product was determined to prove her team's place at the top Saturday, going off for a triple double as she found ways to contribute all over the floor. Belmore ended the night with 23 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, two block and five steals as she helped the Cougars sweep their provincial rival in a statement weekend.

Belmore was a perfect five-for-five from three in Saturday's contest, while proving tough on the defensive side of the ball as well.

She and the still-perfect Cougars are now off for a week before they look to build on this momentum on Nov. 25 and 26. They host the Manitoba Bisons both nights at 6 p.m. CST. You can catch the action exclusively on Canada West TV.
