BB: Giles, Toor star in season debuts
Conference basketball season opened Thursday

VANCOUVER - Fourth-year Winnipeg guard Kyanna Giles and fourth year Fraser Valley guard Vick Toor starred in their teams season opening sweeps to earn Canada West Basketball Player of the Week honours.
Giles, who was an All-Canadian with Regina before transferring home to Winnipeg after the 2019-20 season, scored 26 points to go along with six assists, four rebounds and six steals in Winnipeg's 88-82 over the Cougars in Friday's season opener in Regina.
On Saturday, the fourth-year guard came just two assists shy of a triple-double, finishing the night with 21 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals in a second Wesmen win.
The Wesmen (2-0) will take on crosstown rivals, the Manitoba Bisons (0-0), in a home-and-home series beginning Friday at Manitoba.

Cascades guard Vick Toor helped UFV get off to a 2-0 start with a pair of strong performances on the opening weekend of the season.
Toor was hot from long range on Friday, hitting four-of-five three-point attempts in Fraser Valley's 85-63 win over the UBC Okanagan Heat. The Kent, Wash. product scored 24 points in the win, while adding nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Against a new opponent on Saturday, Toor was scoring and delivering in the Cascades 95-93 win over the UNBC Timberwolves. The fourth-year guard scored 14 points and racked up nine rebounds for the second straight night, while also dishing out seven assists and coming up with six steals.
The Cascades (2-0) will make the drive into Vancouver next weekend to take on the UBC Thunderbirds (2-0) Friday and Saturday.
